If 'The Beatles' had been a 14 song single album, what would your songs be?
Wonder what George Martin's 14 songs would be.
This was harder than I thought, but this would be my list. Some of these are sentimental choices rather than selections that are based on objective musical merit. For example, my kids always loved The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill, hence that song is close to my heart.Back in the USSROb-La-Di, Ob-La-Da (yes, I'm one of the one who likes this)The Continuing Story of Bungalow BillWhile My Guitar Gently WeepsHappiness Is a Warm GunBlackbirdPiggiesRocky RaccoonI WillMother Nature's SonSexy SadieHelter Skelter Revolution 1Honey PieI'd love to know what his choices would be.
A beefed up & superior version of Revolution 1 was released the same year. So would have left the slower version off the album.
Liked Rocky Racoon as a boy. Now think it's a bit of a doodle.
Honey Pie but no Dear Prudence? BITUSSR flows perfectly into a John classic.
I prefer the slower version, although I like both. That was one of the "sentimental" choices. Another one my kids liked, so it has fond memories attached. Hm, you make an excellent point. I'd probably swap out Honey Pie in favor of Dear Prudence, then. It's so hard to make any choices in regard to the Beatles, because I honestly do love just about all of their songs, and my personal choices for lists such as these fluctuate on a near-daily basis.
You know, I was approaching this more as a "what would your own personal 14-track White Album look like" and not as "what 14 tracks would you have included on a 14-track commercial release," which was, I believe, your query, Bulldog. My list for a 14-track commercial release would comprise a different set of songs. I'll have to give that some thought.
What was the exact reason for the decision to do the double album?
Good question. Don't know if that was the original aim. Or it morphed into a double as all members were very productive. Topping Revolver & Sgt Pepper would have been tough. The Beatles may have decided to do something different.
Revolution 9 could be the B side to Ob la di ob la da. Beatles B sides were a big thing. That would be a real contrast. Believe John disliked Ob la di ob la da as much as Paul disliked Revolution 9.
I think you had it earlier. They had a lot of songs and George said the egos wouldn’t let things get dropped. I thought this would be easy as I have a cut down White Album playlist. But it’s got 20 songs on it
Also heard they had to release a certain amount of songs under their contract. Releasing 30 in one go, got them nearer that target.
If 'The Beatles' had been a 14 song single album, what would your songs be? Mine would be - Back in the USSRDear PrudenceGlass OnionWhile my guitar gently weeps. Happiness is a warm gun. BlackbirdMartha my dear. Sexy SadieEverybodies got...Savoy TruffleYer BluesI'm so tired. Mother Natures SonBirthday. ----------Ob la di ob la da could have been released as a stand alone single. If Marmalade could get it to number 1....George gets two songs. However the standard Ringo song is not included. But he would not have complained. John would not be happy that Revolution 9 is not included. But that together with other leftovers could be released another time.
Keep trying. You will get there. But may want to change it the following day!
That would be my choice but swap Monkey for Cry Baby Cry
