Things We Said Today

I have been listening to this song for a long time and have no idea of what it means or is about.  And I have tried to research it and have come up empty.  Any ideas?  What are the "things we said today"?

Its a song about 'Jane Asher' and its talking about future events and how and if they'll remember what was being said at that moment.
