Best version of "Across The Universe"

What do you think guys?

I'm gonna go for the Wildlife version because it has the best sounding tamboura drone.(thumbsup)

I've got a fever,

and the only prescription is MORE TAMBOURA DRONE! :D

Edit out the silly bird noises from the Wildlife version, and you have a pretty good version of this great song.

However, the bird noises ARE there, so NO for me to the Wildlife version.

I'll go with the Anthology version.

I think I have a 'wildlife' version without the bird noises - I'll have to check. But that's the version I've gone for - I love the backing Scruff vocals.

Yeah, it's easy to remove the bird noises. Doing that was my first serious try at "editing" music using software!

I know it was for that "Wildlife" album, but really - what possessed John to allow his song to be ruined by those birds flapping their wings?

I know what you mean Ydoll, but I think John was just frustrated at this point and just wanted it released no matter what.

You know, it's suddenly hit me:

There are TWO sorts of "bird noises": the flapping wings, and the Apple Scruffs birds. Very strange ...

AND, get this: those flapping wings sounds must be the first occurrence of WINGS and BEATLES interacting. Very strange ...

When I first heard the wildlife version (downloaded it), i thought the words were, "birds are flying out life endless dreams inside a paper cup..." haha.... I had sung it like that forever until I got the real version and listened carefully!

But the regular versions (without the bird noises) don't seem to flow beautifully into the song... they just start abruptly... I don't think it was handled well...

I imagine the wildlife one was how John really wanted it (because he was not involved in the Let It Be or Let It Be... Naked mixes ;)), so that's why I like it the most... Plus the bird noises make it flow perfectly...

IMO, the bird noises utterly spoil it. The song has nothing whatsoever to do with birds flappping their wings. THEY were inserted cos the song was going on the "Nothing's Gonna Save Our World" wildlife album.

I vote for Anthology.
This could have made a great double A side with Lady Madonna.

Incidentally, all the other versions are variations on this original take.They're speeded up, slowed down or undressed but for me none beat the original.

that was good......but i coulda used a little more tamboura drone!  Explore the space!
