The Silver Hammer
« on: April 02, 2005, 11:02:42 PM »

Here's what happens when a pope dies (taken from the online catholic encyclopedia):

Immediately on the death of a pope the "cardinal camerlengo" who, as representative of the Sacred College, assumes charge of the papal household, verifies by a judicial act the death of the pontiff. In the presence of the household he strikes the forehead of the dead pope three times with a silver mallet, calling him by his baptismal name. The fisherman's ring and the papal seals are then broken. A notary draws up the act which is the legal evidence of the pope's death.

Silver mallet? Was that the origin of Maxwell's silver hammer? Hmmm...

I think Paul has said the silver hammer is just a reference to how just as you think things are going good, down comes the hammer.  If he had been referring to this i bet he would have said it, cos people would admire the song a bit more.  And we know Paul wants that.

I'm pretty sure it's nto related... because MSH is supposed to be about when something bad happens and screws everything up.

While we're on the subject, I hope they get a better Pope this time, one who isn't so right-wing and old fashioned. he was a good person and had a lot of personal magnetism, but he was a bad leader and a lot of people left the Church because of him.
But he was a perfectly good person, of course. God bless him.

I think the Silver hammer was in reference to when everything is going well in your life all of a sudden a silver hammer comes down and changes it. Metaforically speaking. He was a medical student prehaps the silver hammer was one of his medical instruments also??I believe the first observation was the true on or so Paul said.
