I had to drop out of our band for a few months, now I'm back and this bugger (the bass player) is singing all my high harmonies.
I did the manly thing and smashed his knuckles with a tire iron, and now he can't play, so it's all good.
Just kidding! What I did was decide to either learn or make up a third harmony to every thing. Listening to the Beatles for my whole life has made me believe that there are always two harmonies to add on top of a melody possible. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but I live my life with that.
For example in Norwegian Wood - in the Em bit - John starts going down on the B, and Paul on the high G. So I put a 3rd one in there, more or less parallel to the others, starting on the E. I think it works pretty well, at least the other guys said it could stay. How about that - making up a harmony to a Beatles song, woo hoo!
On "I Feel Fine', on the last verse, I parallel John's voice, but starting down on the G, whereas he's up on the D ("Baby's good to me..."). I'm not sure that one is as much of a keeper. a little droney, but we'll see how it turns out.
It is one of my greatest pleasures in music to write/sing "Beatles-like" harmonies. Does anyone else here get into that?
