I gave Magical Mystery Tour and Abbey Road a few spins, my first impressions:
- First thing that came to mind: wow, was the bass guitar always this loud in the mix?
- It's amazing how much better, fresher and more lively the sound is. I think you can compare it to having listened to a tape copy of an album for years and then finally getting the real CD.
- Packaging (obviously) sure is a hell of a lot better than on the 1987 CDs. Great to finally have a decent booklet. LP replica sleeves (I believe the box sets do have those?) would've been even cooler though. And why isn't the lettering on the side the same? It's in regular type on MMT and on AR it's in bold and bigger. Nitpicking, I know, but I figure it would seem a bit inconsistent if you've got all the CDs in a row.
