James Blunt ,Good or Bad ?
« on: August 20, 2007, 09:04:30 AM »

I went to my older brother's for dinner yesterday and he was playing James Blunt's  " Back To Bedlam " which i had never heard ,although im familiar with the single's .
My brother John say's that James is the best singer song writer around ? , but as he's a massive  " Dido " fan i don't always take to serious what he say's lol
He's one of those people who as always loved the middle of the road when it come's to music .
So his claim i took with regard to James Blunt with a pinch of salt . But on listening to the album i quite liked what i heard , which supprised me as ive read a far bit of negative criticism with regard to James Blunt and his style of music.
So what's your veiw on James Blunt ? is he any good or his he bad ?
I think im going to get the album as i quite liked  his voice and it's overall feel , which i thought was quite 70's retro .
Ive heard the new single " 1973 " from his new album  " All The Lost Soul's " , which i also quite liked , so is James someone you love or hate ?

ive heard only the singles and i find his music very bland, he writes constant whiny ballads imo ,but he does get6 to number one constantly so i suppose there must be something there, just a matter of taste.

Liked him for a week or two, I thought he sounded like a more commercial version of Elliott Smith, but I got tired of his music really quickly.

Well ive bought the album  " Back To Bedlam" , this morning and played it through , and without the wine clouding my judgement im not sure now i really like what i hear .
Goodbye My Lover is really bad infact it's worse than bad it stinks , i want to slap his face and stop him bleating on like some lovesick teenager ;D
And there are a couple more tracks that induce the same violent feelings "Cry" ,and "Tears And Pain " , utter rubbish .
Having said that  " Wisemen ", " You're Bueatiful " and the last track on the album " No Bravery " a haunting anti war song i really quite like .
I think he's got some talent ,but im not sure ?

I think he's terrible....his voice is very annoying...and he doesn't have anything that sets him apart from the rest of the pack.

I think 12 million album sales on your debut album and a #1 single in 36 countries , sets him apart from the pack ?
But i do agree his voice is a bit annoying , he's got a warble like Marc Bolan had ,but not as good ,which is maybe why i quite like his voice , it's different.

"You're Beautiful" gets on my... nerves.
He sounds like gay...

I read somewhere that he has been in UN troops in Kosovo.
Why didn't he stay there? :-(

I think he's another flash in the pan singer/songwriter. 12m album sales, fair play to him, but I bet it's all over bar the shouting. I remember their being great hopes for David Gray a few years back, but what's happened to him?

I suppose the man has talent, but he's not McCartney. I've read somewhere he "is the New Elton John" .  :o

Yeah, sure.

Don't care much for him. He's done alright, but let's see how well he is going in 5 years or so.

Bought his new album today  " All The Lost Souls "  , it's a much better effort than the first , the songs are more rounded and his singing is better , less bleating .
Love the single 1973 , he's been listening to The Beatles Give Me Some Love is brilliant it's reminds me off All You Need Is Love/ Hey Jude a very clever song .
He referances The Beatles on I can Hear Music , when he sings " I hope the lonely hearts club band will play out one last song.
Another 12 million selling album , if not more ?. Love him or hate him this guy is going to stay around i think on the strength of this album it's a very good album , shows real growth as a song writer in my opinion . Think im becoming a fan of the Blunt , America is going to love this album , might even debut at # 1 on Billboard ?

Love the single 1973

It did the same thing for me as all his earlier hits:

Liked it at first listen, got a bit tired of it after a while and now it just annoys me.

Thats James Blunt Joost Mr annoying, he's split most of my friends down the middle a good half hate him but the rest love him , im really warming to him .
I wonder if im going soft in my old age ? Ive just played the new album again and i can't fault it , Shine On is becoming a favourite track it builds to a great climax, his band certainly can play ?

The man is growing on me. I love 1973. Reminds me of Al Stewart circa Year Of The Cat, which is a good thing.
