I heard about the Beatles before I heard anything by them. I was fifteen. We lived in Malawi, and we were usually a few months behind the UK in what music we were listening to. Because this was early to mid-1963, but  I still hadn't heard of them, even though I listened to the charts countdown every Sunday night. But a friend told me about this new band that had drawn bigger crowds at the Cavern in Liverpool than The Shadows had. He showed me a music magazine with a photo, and a short article about them. Since I'd learned to play the guitar using Shadows tunes, they were my heroes, and I was immediately hostile to these interlopers with pudding-bowl haircuts. But soon after that I was at a party at another friend's house, and someone put Please Please Me on the turntable. I thought it was the most fantastic thing I'd ever heard. That harmonica, those driving guitars! All my hostility went out the window....

To be honest, I've been mostly a classical fan since my early twenties, but my favourites from the world of pop/rock are the Beatles, Kate Bush, and Pink Floyd. But I've been a Beatles fan for.... what, nearly 46 years. You just have to play No Reply, and I'm immediately transported back to my bedroom at midnight or 1 a.m, sitting at my desk studying for A-levels, with the radio turned down low to avoid waking up the rest of the family. That song is inextricably bound up with the world of maths and physics.

Hi I'm new here too :)
My first Beatles encounter was when I was about 7 years old and I got a walkman for my christmas present from my grandma. I was so excited and my dad had a cd on the counter so I decided to have a listen--- Meet the Beatles!!! I remember setting up my little plastic 3 foot by 3 foot Barbie tent all alone in the living room when my mom was at work and my dad was outside and listening to the whole cd. I loved it so much, my little 7 year old self 'forgot' to return it to daddy :) Now at age 14 I simply adore the Beatles! I listen to all the albums now, though, not just Meet the Beatles (over and over and over and over) haha but I still haven't gotten around to returning that borrowed cd.......  8)

I think I read an article on the band, and they were talking about how revolutionary they were. I figured I should  be in the know of this one, so I clicked around the internet. This was about five years ago, and the first song I heard was "Penny Lane." Loved it and I went and bought the "1" CD the next weekend. I've been a little obsessed ever since.

When I really became obsessed with the Beatles was about two years ago when I was sifting through my dad's vinyl collection looking for a Miles Davis record. I stumbled upon "Meet the Beatles" and asked my dad about it. He said that he used to practice drumming along with Ringo back when he first started! I listened to the record and immediately fell in love! I've been a Beatle freak ever since.

You guys are good. I heard your covers of Norwegian Wood, Misery, and Here Comes the Sun. Some good guitar work there. Keep it going.
