Magic Man by Heart. This song has overwhelmed me for years. I grew up in a very sexist time and I was not able to process women rocking like they do in this song.
It actually terrified me and still does. The power in the song is enormous starting about mid way through. After the climatic instrumental middle, the ladies start singing together and it just sweeps you up into a sort of ocean wave (like the aftermath of a tsunami).
I just didn't think women could create such an effect. It's like guys were somehow naturally endowed or anointed to do hard rock but women weren't. I imagine the Sirens singing to and drawing ancient mariners to their deaths because they are unable to resist the Sirens' singing. And when I try to visualize them I see Anne and Nancy as the lead singers.
"Come on home, girl" Mama cried on the phone. "Too soon to lose my baby yet, my girl should be at home.
Maybe this is part of what makes the song so powerful.
