Live on Hullabaloo - 11 April 1966 Paul was just 23 years old when he wrote this song. |

But boy, was the revelation of George's quitting in GB a shock to me! I'd never known that before. Did any of you know? I didn't know George had quit. I knew Ringo had quit during the white album sessions. I kind of knew exactly how George was feeling when he quit. I've played in quite a few bands over my life and one thing I've noticed is there is usually a dictator, if not early on but appears down the track a bit. The last band I was in we had a lead guitarist who decided on things like the set list and how arrangements of songs should be etc etc. Never once thinking to ask "what do you think".. He even got a keyboard player to join without any discission with us. It drives you a bit mad, and an anger wells up inside and makes you feel pretty horrible. These dictators are relentless and start treating you like a backing band. If you want to avoid a bit bust up or confrontation you either A) get over it somehow (bite your lip) or B) just quit. I think we all know Paul was that dictator. I remember a scene in get Back where he is telling Ringo (a quiet person in the studio) how he wants him to drum, you can see the look on Ringo's face, he hates being dictated too and his blood pressure is steadily rising. I know exactly how he felt. I appreciate that Paul kept the band going and without him there would probably be no Abbey Rd. But I'm not surprised the band broke up after that. |
